Birmingham City Council's Designation of an Area for Selective Licensing 2023 (council page name: Selective licensing)

Status
In force
Runs
5 June 2023 to 4 June 2028
Designated
1 March 2022
Fee
£700 per property: £375 when you apply and £325 when the council decides to grant your draft licence. There's no discount for landlords with several properties, so ten properties need ten licences. A licence lasts up to five years.
Applies to
Every privately rented home in the 25 named wards. Exempt: HMOs that need a mandatory or additional HMO licence, homes let by a housing association or other registered social landlord, homes managed directly by a university or college, homes under a management order or with a temporary exemption, and the kinds of letting exempt nationally. An empty property doesn't need a licence.

Is your property inside the scheme area?

This checker reflects HouseFile’s records of council licensing designations, not the councils’ live registers. Our records indicate the position at the verification date shown on each result. Schemes are designated, renewed and revoked throughout the year, and postcode-level lookups are approximate near scheme boundaries. Always confirm with the council before letting or buying a property, using the source link on each card. This is general information, not legal advice.

If you hold a licence here, HouseFile can track its renewal date

Keep the licence with the rest of the property's certificates, and HouseFile will remind you before each one is due. It also records when your tenants open the documents you share.
