- £1,250 for a five-year licence: £400 when you apply, which isn't refunded, and £850 once the council has decided to grant the licence. Accredited landlords get £50 off, and another £50 if the home has an EPC of C or above. A newly let home with an EPC of C or above costs £800 (£250 and £550).
- Applies to
- HMOs in the 22 named wards let to three or four people from two or more households who share facilities. Converted blocks of flats (section 257 HMOs) are excluded.

Running a licensable HMO without a licence carries the same penalties as any licensing offence: a civil penalty of up to £40,000 and a rent repayment order of up to 24 months’ rent.
