- £950 per property, paid in two parts: £290 when you apply and £660 when the licence is granted. Landlords accredited under the Nottingham Rental Standard pay £759 (£290 and £469), and landlords the council rates as less compliant pay £1,318 (£290 and £1,028). There are block licences for whole buildings, a £50 reduction under the Armed Forces Covenant, and extra charges of £39 and £74 for a paper application. Fees from 1 April 2026.

- Every privately rented home in the designated area, about 30,000 homes in all. Exempt: HMOs that need an HMO licence, homes let by social landlords, homes under a management order or temporary exemption, and some kinds of letting such as holiday lets, long leases, student lets under an approved code and lodgers living with their landlord.

Selective licensing applies to privately rented homes of any size in the designated area, including single lets. Letting an unlicensed property inside the area can mean a civil penalty of up to £40,000 and a rent repayment order of up to 24 months’ rent.
