Peterborough Designation of Areas for Selective Licensing 2023 (council page name: Peterborough Selective Licensing Scheme)

Status
In force
Runs
11 March 2024 to 10 March 2029
Designated
5 December 2023
Fee
£908 per property: £538 when you apply and £370 before the licence is issued. A licence lasts until the scheme ends on 10 March 2029, and the fee is the same whenever you apply. You apply through Home Safe, the council's partner.
Applies to
Every privately rented home in the areas shown on the council's map, in parts of Bretton, Central, East, Fletton and Stanground, Fletton and Woodston, North, Orton Waterville, Park, Paston and Walton and Stanground South wards, let to one person, one household or two unrelated people. Each property needs its own licence. Exempt: HMOs that need an HMO licence (since 26 January 2026 that includes shared houses of three or four people, which come under additional HMO licensing), homes let by a registered social landlord such as a housing association, homes with a temporary exemption, and the kinds of letting exempt nationally, such as holiday lets, business tenancies and leases of over 21 years. The council's street list is a guide: it misses some streets in the area and includes a few just outside, such as Sugar Way. Check the council's map for your address.

Area covered

The designation covers a defined area of Peterborough City Council. Check your exact address with the checker below and against the map on the council’s designation page, because scheme boundaries are drawn street by street.

Peterborough City Council also runs its own address-level lookup: check whether a specific address falls inside the scheme.

What this means for landlords

Selective licensing applies to privately rented homes of any size in the designated area, including single lets. Letting an unlicensed property inside the area can mean a civil penalty of up to £40,000 and a rent repayment order of up to 24 months’ rent.

Is your property inside the scheme area?

This checker reflects HouseFile’s records of council licensing designations, not the councils’ live registers. Our records indicate the position at the verification date shown on each result. Schemes are designated, renewed and revoked throughout the year, and postcode-level lookups are approximate near scheme boundaries. Always confirm with the council before letting or buying a property, using the source link on each card. This is general information, not legal advice.

If you hold a licence here, HouseFile can track its renewal date

Keep the licence with the rest of the property's certificates, and HouseFile will remind you before each one is due. It also records when your tenants open the documents you share.
