Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council Designation of Areas for Selective Licensing of Privately Rented Properties (Central Stockton, North Thornaby and Newtown, 2024)
- Status
- In force
- Runs
- 1 November 2024 to 31 October 2029
- Designated
- 16 May 2024
- Fee
- £653 per property over the five years: £178 when you apply, then £95 a year, the first shortly after the licence is issued and then every 12 months. An application sent more than 28 days after the home becomes licensable, or left incomplete for 28 days after the council returns it, costs £100 more (£753 in all). Members of the council's landlord accreditation scheme, PLuSS, the NRLA or the BLA get £50 off per property, or £75 for those who were in the council's scheme or full PLuSS members on 31 May 2024, taken off the yearly fees. Landlords applying for two or more properties get £25 off the application fee for each property after the first.
- Applies to
- Every privately rented home in three parts of the borough, Central Stockton, North Thornaby and Newtown, including flats and shared houses that don't need an HMO licence. HMOs that need a mandatory licence (usually five or more people sharing) are exempt, as are lettings exempt by law. Some streets are only partly in the scheme, by house number. Check the council's maps and street lists for your address.

This checker reflects HouseFile’s records of council licensing designations, not the councils’ live registers. Our records indicate the position at the verification date shown on each result. Schemes are designated, renewed and revoked throughout the year, and postcode-level lookups are approximate near scheme boundaries. Always confirm with the council before letting or buying a property, using the source link on each card. This is general information, not legal advice.
